FAQ and glossary

How to read the listings, and what the terms on the official pages mean.

Common questions

What does this site show?
For each place, the government programs a one-person business can apply for, with amounts, conditions and whether applications are open, set against the largest figure the program advertises.
Why is the headline figure usually out of reach?
The largest figure is often reserved for incorporated companies and requires matched funding. The Industry Growth Program offers grants of up to A$5 million, but only to a company incorporated in Australia (or an incorporated trustee), as matched funding, and only after an Advisory Service report.
Is the list complete?
No. We cover a limited number of places and programs, and only the programs named on each page. Other programs may exist that we have not listed, so check with the agency before you apply.
Where does the information come from?
From the official page of the agency that runs each program. Every program links to its source, and each place shows the date we last checked it.
Do I need a company?
It depends on the program. CSIRO Kick-Start requires an ACN or ICN. The R&D Tax Incentive and the Industry Growth Program are for incorporated companies. The Self-Employment Assistance and instant asset write-off pages list no company requirement.
What does "No round is open" mean?
The program exists but is not taking applications on the day we checked. For Export Market Development Grants, Austrade says its website will be updated when the next round is confirmed.
Do you lodge applications?
No. We do not lodge applications, promise outcomes, or give legal or tax advice.
